Y'all my Mom wrote me a permission slip this morning.
It means the entire world to me.
This afternoon during my reflection time, I felt the full value of her words.
My mother read my most recent blog posts and she said to me, "You keep slaying those dragons. There are still more being born today so you better slay."
YES!
In all the many thousands of men, women, and children that I have served; I think that I can count on one hand the number of families who handled it in a way that was healing for the victim. We are not prepared. We don't know what to do. Families just don't know what to do.
My mother and I are still in the process of healing. The terrain is treacherous. Our journey has been difficult and silent at times. Today it is filled with laughter, realness, honesty, and acceptance.
I came home from giving a speech to a group of moms one day. I curled up in a fetal position on my couch and called my mom.
Mom: How did it go?
Me: Great.
Mom: Well what's wrong with you?
Me: Mom they looked terrified! I mean they said they loved the speech and everything but I scared those people. I promise you, I even held back a lot but mom you should have seen them. I don't know if I can do this. They came in all....
Mom: Well, fine Tonya. Just tell them that there is no danger to their children then. That no one will ever hurt them, everyone will throw them a parade every time they walk out the door.
Me: Wait. Why you being mean to me?
Mom: I'm not. But this isn't about you. You said that this is about the kids but you just called me talking about how you felt. I'm just trying to set things up so you feel better. I'm looking out for your comfort.
Me. Love you Mom. Bye.
Mom: Love you too. Byeeeeee.
Momma is always so unbothered.
So yes, when my Mama approves of me taking on the villains that wish to steal peace, innocence, sanity, love, joy, faith, hope, and even the voices from others, I love it! We have come so far.
Mama said slay. (Smiling)
