Update: Vermont High School Backs Down Over “Transgender” Incident After ADF Files a First Amendment Lawsuit - The New American I'm pr...
I'm proud of these girls!
We want girls to speak up when they feel uncomfortable.
We want girls to have boundaries.
We want girls to be comfortable asserting those boundaries.
No matter who it is.
When I was in school there were girls who were not comfortable dressing and un-dressing in front of other girls for their own personal reasons.
Some reasons we knew (religion, separatism along difference lines, personal preference, choosing not to be the punchline of the "cool girls".....), some we didn't. Really, it was none of our business.
We had a female coach-Coach Jackson 💓just for the girls-that we could go to on any given day and let her know that we were uncomfortable getting undressed in front of others or even just undressing at all.
It might have felt a bit strange at first, but by late September or early October, it was the norm. So, a few weeks in we figured out that it was none of our business why a fellow student chose not to undress with the rest of us.
We got used to it.
We coped.
We adapted to other students' boundaries-a critical life lesson for every human being.
In fact, if we had a substitute coach that day, the other students would help enforce the boundaries of the other students.
This ought to be the right of every female student. This ought to be the right of EVERY student.
No child should be forced to get nude in front of others for ANY reason. Children do not lose personal rights and boundaries when they go to school.
May the community continue to support students in learning to set boundaries and stand up for their individual rights.
