"Women and girls' rights is so five years ago."
See how quickly it all disintegrates and devolves?
We quickly got to the point where critiquing harm against women and children is viewed as hate. That's how boundary-breaking works.
It starts slowly and is barely noticeable.
And then one day you look up and start wondering, "how did we get here?"
The invasion of boundaries is designed that way. It is strategic.
People who habitually invade boundaries, people who feel 'entitled' to invade boundaries... rarely say: "Ooops, I think I have gone too far. Let me back up."
Keep in mind that Tampax sells products that are used by underage girls....
Tampax US @Tampax
You're in their DMs. We're in them.
We are not the same.
TRANSLATION: You are in the women and girls' direct messages. We are inside of the women and girls.
By many, this was applauded as the "tweet of the year."
Many women predicted this direction earlier this year when Tampax hired a male as their 'representative' to explain to women and girls how to effectively use a tampon.
But those calls were ignored and dismissed as 'hateful'.
So this tweet isn't surprising at all. If you aren't listening to women and girls....
if you ignore women and girls.....
It can only lead to public tweets to millions of people around the world that are as offensive, sexist, and misogynistic as this.
It turns out that if you sell products to women and girls, you actually have to listen to women and girls. You can't just perform and mimic womanhood.
Authentic Girlhood
Note that some women and girls brought to Tampax's attention that not all girls are even allowed to wear tampons. That's because some parents & cultures equate tampons with 'virginity' and 'sexuality'.
Back in the day, where I am from, some of the older folks believed that tampon usage could potentially make teen girls "fast" or promiscuous.
Girlhood is not a performance. You can't put it on and take it off. You live it. Prayerfully, you survive it.
It is a reality whether one wears skirts, bows, and hair beads or not. For some, growing up as a girl includes experiences like these that cross cultures, races, ethnicities, and continents.
Tampax will have to do a better job listening to women and girls to have access to stories like these though.
What It's Like Growing Up with the Belief that Tampons Take Virginity - VICE
UPDATE: Like the juvenile behavior that Tampax has been exhibiting for awhile now......the company's latest tweet:
We messed up with our last tweet. We removed it and we apologize to everyone we offended. Respect is central to our brand values - our recent language did not reflect that. We have learned from this, and we will do better.
In actuality, they initially doubled down on the extremely offensive and gross tweet.
They didn't "mess up". They gave a call out to creepy males everywhere boasting about being "inside" women and girls. During menstruation.
As women were calling this disgust out, they had to be further subjected to people all over telling them that, "they couldn't take a joke", "it isn't that deep...pun intended."
Clueless and disgusting people were performing the social media equivalent of a "high-five" for that tweet while Tampax was enjoying every minute of it.
Tampax instigated this ditch-level disrespect and then basked in it. Took a victory lap. Disgusting and gross to the highest levels.
Tampax caused this through a long-term pattern of dismissive, disrespectful, insulting, and disgusting behavior against women and girls.
It took them too long to figure out that women and girls are their customer base and because we are also human beings, we deserve the highest degree of respect.
(See, not new. Women just got fed up.)

The Balenciaga story keeps getting WORSE. Don’t confuse this for cancel culture. This is CHILDREN we are talking about. Balenciaga needs to thoroughly explain how all of these references to child exploitation came about.
