A reader of WESurviveAbuse.com contacted me with this wonderful message:
Not that addiction isn’t always an important topic, but it seems to be an especially hot news item lately.
If you ask me, that’s a great thing, since it inspires research on helping people recover (like this recent action taken by the FDA) and reassures those who have fallen victim to substance abuse that they’re not alone.
I know that my power in helping others is limited, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to find ways to share information on addiction and recovery with those who need it.
Having looked over your site, it looks like you are just as passionate, so I hope you’ll join me in my awareness efforts and consider sharing the informative resources below with your readers.
Tonya: I couldn’t agree more. I appreciate this email more than you all know. Most of WE’s longtime readers might recall that I have been in therapy for child sexual abuse issues off/on since the age of 13.
I will always be thankful for the counselor who spent a lot of time working with me on substance use/abuse prevention. Having counseled many Survivors, my therapist showed me research stating that Survivors were at higher risk to become addicted to food, drugs, alcohol, etc.
Ever since then I have been extremely cautious. I wish that we could replicate some version of what my brilliant counselor did with all trauma Survivors. Until then we can continue to support one another and be a voice for one another.
WE Survive Abuse!
Tonya: JC , I extend my thanks and appreciation to you.
Thank you for helping.
Thank you for serving.
